facebook over https

Played around on facebook yesterday. You can reach facebook over https, thus encrypting your session cookies and the rest of your traffic. The downside is that facebook does nor stay consistently on https. Some links spit you back to http without encryption. I hope they will fix that soon …

Too much information running through my brain –

– Too much information driving me insane (THE POLICE/Sting)

Some of my followed twitter accounts send me hourly updates – as interesting as this might be this is too much information for my feeble mind. Add a daily Newspaper, facebook, newsfeed-subscriptions and you get two to four hours a day just to keep up with the things I want to know. This does not include all the things I should be aware of …

Some strategies to put all this data in a classic layout and consume it in a „retro“ way might be – have a look at Prof. Michael Wagners daily „Newsvirtual“ on Looks good to my „Digital-Immigrant-Persona“ but I very much doubt that this will be a viable future for my paperless other half …

facebook is #1 referrer to brand sites

This year facebook surpassed google as #1 referrer to brand portals. Institutions like the Red Cross already use facebook as donation marketing instruments – see their presentation at Mediencamp Vienna on slideshare.

The interesting thing about this presentation is, that facebook referrals and conversions from these kick in much earlier than conversions from google adwords or similar SEM methods. „old World“ SEMarketing only starts to work as late as events get broader media coverage …

So if you cannot arrange media coverage for your brand/event/younameit you ought to consider founding personas and groups on facebook. And by the way, arrange some barcamps …
